Appeal to help deliver beds to ICU units at Sri Lanka’s hospitals: Donations needed

Posted May 15, 2021

Member organisations of the FSOQ have banded together to launch an appeal for the delivery of much-needed hospital beds for critical patients in COVID-19 ICU wards in Sri Lanka’s hospitals.

Doctors in Sri Lanka have said there was a critical shortage, and in response the FSOQ has secured 350 electrically operated hospital beds from Queensland Health but needs funding to ship the cargo. As such, an appeal has been made to the wider Brisbane community to donate money to cover freight costs.

FSOQ secretary Jayantha Weerasekera said: “Each 40-foot container can carry 60 beds and local costs for shipping a container is around $3000. We need to use seven 40-foot containers for this purpose and much appreciate assistance from our community by investing in a bed or multiple beds as they are able to sponsor.

“We have costed a bed at $50 for donations.

“Please follow the instructions in the attached flyer in giving your valued donation. We are very certain our community will rally round us as always to meet the urgent requirement of ICU wards for COVID-19 patients in Sri Lankan Government hospitals. May the merits of blessings be with your families.”
